The Good Place: Treasure Tomorrow

2018-06-05 13.53.34When we sold our house in Dothan, AL we began packing up our belongings and had multiple garage sales. After the final garage sale, we decided that whatever was left in the garage would be donated to the Rescue Mission. There was some really good stuff in that garage that was difficult to part with. The problem was that all our household possessions needed to fit in a single storage unit and even though we didn’t know where we would be moving, we knew that a moving company would charge us by weight. We had to part with things that at one time we thought we never would. Treasured items found a new home. Continue reading “The Good Place: Treasure Tomorrow”

Left to Our Own Devices: Power Down

2018-04-24 08.42.57.pngComedian Jim Gaffigan has a bit about taking his family to Disney World in his special Mr. Universe. He compares Disney World in July to standing in line on the surface of the sun. “Remember when you were a kid and you would go on vacation and go, ‘why is dad always in a bad mood? In the book, teen, Wade Watts along with most of the world’s population logs into a virtual world called the Oasis. The Oasis is where they go to escape the terrors of the real world. Sound familiar? They Were Afraid

2018-03-27 14.02.29.pngI am the father of three brave girls. Well, they are brave most of the time. The other times when they are not so brave is often due to bugs. Bugs are their kryptonite. For you, it may be clowns (thanks “It”). What I have observed is that people can be brave but often they are not. The end of Mark’s gospel is a commentary on humanity today, “…they were afraid.”

Family of God

Demons cringe at his presence and know who he is. They submit to his authority and release those they hold captive at the sound of his name. They become obedient to his will and cannot escape his reach. Some think this is because demons and Jesus are “family.”  In Mark’s gospel, Jesus has authority over demons because he is releasing people to join his family, the family of God.
