A Prayer for Our Nation

Holy Father, we mourn with those who have suffered loss through gun violence.

We pray against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.

We no longer wish to be ensnared in believing that we are powerless to make a difference in human suffering and senseless violence.

You have not made us into, “there is nothing we can do” kind of people.

You are the God who does the impossible. So, we cry out “not one more.”

We want to be a people who will always hope and will always trust that your love through Jesus will ultimately overcome this world.

We ask that you pour out empathy in our hearts to feel what others feel, to grieve when others grieve.

May your Holy Spirit unite our spirits in a collective moan.

And as Jesus stands may we stand together in solidarity and power.

Alone we have no power and create little movement, but together as a people of God, we are world changers.

You are a God who holds the individual gently, but whose reach stretches out over nations.

Save us.

Save our nation. Amen.
